Questions & Answers
Q: How does this Ivy-League Program Plan compare to your other College Consultation services?
A: Great question. Our Ivy-League Program Plan focuses more on the elite institutions and while we do not believe in "molding" your child to get admitted into such prestigious and elite institutions, there are many strategic routes that we will share with our clients to increase the student's chances for admittance. We require that students meet our minimum requirements for this program, as the plan demands students to work with us as early as their high school entry, whereas our College Consultation services are open to all students regardless of transcript and activities. In essence, both programs and services include the same services, however, the Ivy League Program has a higher demand and focus on elite institution admissions process.
Q: My son is already going to be a senior this year, is he eligible for this program?
A: Your son would be eligible for this program, if he has a GPA of 3.7 and above, SAT or ACT in the 90th percentile, and a recommended resume of activities, awards (or national awards), honors, sports, community services and more. You can contact Stephenie at Lee Academia to find out if your son is eligible for the Ivy-League Program Plan. Some exceptions have been made, so do not hesitate to ask for more information about your eligibility.
Q: Why do you recommend that 9th and 10th graders participate in this Ivy-League Program?
A: We recommend that the earlier the start and game plan begins, the higher the chances and opportunities for the student to improve and reach his/her goal. Very often, we work with students who do not have the opportunity to retake a recommended SAT or Subject Test, and students did not take enough challenging courses that they excelled at, or students realize too late that certain interests were not cultivated and they end up participating in activities that they perceived colleges would like to see on their resumes. When students have a college game plan in mind, they do not stress out or rush through their senior year application process, minimizing errors and common mistakes. The students have had years of finding hobbies, interests and activities they are passionate about and can continue throughout college and beyond. As mentioned earlier, Lee Academia counselors do not believe in molding students to only get into elite institutions, but to get into institutions they fit into and can grow at while contributing their skills, passion and interests to the college community.
Q: My daughter likes her current school guidance counselor, so I want to know how can I convince my daughter to work with your counselors?
A: Our counselors hear this a lot. Lee Academia's counselors do not encourage students to stop seeing their school counselors. We actually require that our students visit and work with their school counselors as they work with us. We work WITH the school counselors to help your child with her educational career. School counselors have many responsibilities they have to worry about, as well as helping their students with their college planning process and school-related issues during school days and hours. Our counselors have the opportunity to work closely with your child with more flexibility and during late evenings and weekends.
Q: I am already getting consulting in the other College Consulting package with Stephenie. May I switch over to this program?
A: Yes, absolutely. Stephenie and our team will work with you. We will be more than happy to credit your fees paid for College Consulting package towards the full fee of the Ivy-League Program. We will put you in contact with our Business Manager.
Q: I am interested in this program for my 7th grader. Is it too early?
A: We commend you for early preparation for your child. It is never too early nor too late to get started with the educational planning process for college, however, we always remind parents to make sure that their child understands it is more important to enjoy his/her interests and find something they are passionate in, rather than force themselves through an activity "just" to get into college. 7th grade is actually our cut-off for this program. While we recommend that parents start planning for their child's future even before kindergarten, we do not recommend that students are put into college mode earlier than 7th grade with the planning of their schedule, curriculum and activities. Our counselors will customize the program for your child, if you decide to start your 7th grader in the process early, please contact us at 646.266.6084.
Q: Can parents put two kids into this program together? I have a son in 10th grade and another in 9th grade.
A: We work with each student individually, no matter if they are related or not. You may definitely put two kids into the program together. Our counselors are professional, and will give each child their own time and counseling program. Lee Academia is more than happy to work with families. Also, Lee Academia has special discount for families with siblings that wish to participate in similar programs together. Please contact our Business Manager at [email protected] with the Subject: IvyLeague Program - Sibling Discount, and we will get back to you about the program for siblings.
Q: My husband and I want our son to get into an Ivy-League college, like Columbia University, but his grades are on the lower end right now. Can we put him into this program?
A: It depends on your son's school transcripts, courses taken, standardized exam score, and his grade. If he is still 9-10th grade, he still has time to improve and change his portfolio. However, if he is already a junior, depending on what you mean by lower-end, we need to see other factors, such as sports, awards, parents' backgrounds and more. We invite you to contact us or to come in and further discuss with us. Every student's case is different, and it all depends on various factors. Lee Academia can work with you. If your son does not meet the eligibility for this program, we can customize the College Consulting services we offer to a similar program for you.
Q: What are the Ivy-League schools? And why do so many families want their kids applying to them?
A: The Ivy-Leagues are eight (8) private institutions of higher education in the Northeastern region of the United States. The term officially started out as the athletic conference that is also commonly used to refer to those eight schools as a group. The eight institutions are Brown University, Columbia University, Cornell University, Dartmouth University, Harvard University, Princeton University, the University of Pennsylvania, and Yale University.
The term Ivy League also has connotations of academic excellence, selectivity in admissions, and social elitism.
These Ivy-League schools are viewed as some of the most prestigious, as they are ranked among the best universities in the U.S, and worldwide. All eight of these institutions are placed within the top 15 of the U.S. News & World Report College and University rankings.
Although Stanford University and M.I.T (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) are not considered the original Ivies, they are placed among these 8 schools in ranking and prestige.
While Lee Academia works with families and students who want to apply to these prestigious institutions, we do not focus on the Ivies, as all the other higher education institutions are also great in academic excellence and offer many opportunities to students for development, growth and education. There is a higher institution for every student's needs and goals.
